A Crossword & A Compliment

This morning on the metro, I was listening to a podcast and doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper.

A woman about my age sat down next to me halfway through my ride. I nudged myself closer to window and gave a quick smile before turning back to the paper. We rode in silence for about 10 minutes until we approached her stop.

She stood to leave, put on her gloves and then turned to me, and said, gesturing at the crossword, "You're killing that, by the way."

I smiled.

"Thanks."
